When you look up a word in the app you get EXACTLY what is in the book (only with better layout and color).
The "How to use this dictionary" is also exactly as it is in the book -what you need is the "iPhone app - Help" section.
The free dictionaries you mention are probably discontinued editions (Random House in Dictionary.com), college-level 'samplers' (MW), or "open source" ones made by students (WordNet). There are no quality dictionaries out as apps that are free.
But, thank you for saying this is better than them anyway.
