Retina Display Macs coming in April?

Apple fans have been digging into the nooks and crannies of Apple’s OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion developer release – and seem to have unearthed clues pointing to Retina Displays on next-gen Macs. Specifically, OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion has been found to contain double resolution icons – the type that would be used on a Retina Display.
We reported high-resolution code in OS X 10.7.3, where some cursors were double the size. Apple added the HiDPI elements to Lion earlier this year – modelled on the UI resolution doubling software used in iOS on Retina Displays.
So with talk of an ultra-thin MacBook Pro coming in April, a new 15in MacBook Air expected around the same time, plus new Ivy Bridge processors due in April, we can’t help but think the new iPad 3’s Retina Display might not be the only new one we see this year. A 15in MacBook Pro with a Retina Display would sport a glorious 2,880x1,800 pixels. Bring on the Retina Display for MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac, Apple – we’re saving our pennies already.
